Fully-supported program designed to reduce batch cycle times by 10-30% within just 10-24 weeks.
Key features
- Rapidly improve your batch cycle times to better meet sales demand without the need for major capital investments.
- Gain the ability to adapt quickly to changes in demand, minimizing downtime and maximizing throughput.
- Achieve more consistent and predictable production processes, reducing variability and enhancing overall product quality.
There are two main use cases where this service brings the most value:
- When an organization’s sales demand exceeds the manufacturing capacity of the batch process
- Extended or unstable batch cycle times are limiting an organization’s ability to flex their manufacturing schedule

Industries
We have a strong track record of results across industries:
Opportunity Assessment
Typically, all projects begin with a 1–3 week Opportunity Scan at the relevant client site(s). During which, we quantify the size of the opportunity, set a target and design a plan for what would be needed to deliver that target.
The goal of the assessment is to assess:
- The critical path and best historical execution performance for a whole batch.
- Variation and theoretical minimum, and possible overlaps of and between process steps
- What is the resulting possible shortest target cycle time, and what are the largest levers to close the gap to of current execution to that optimum?
- What would be required to deliver that outcome – length of time, resourcing, workstreams etc.?
Delivering this requires a mixture of data analysis, process investigation and direct observations of batch cycle activities on the shop floor and workshops with process experts.
The output of the scan is a prioritized list of improvement opportunities for improving batch cycle time, typically 20-50%, with a project plan to deliver those improvements, between 8-16 weeks.
The Rapid Results Team
Chartwell consultants come on-site and lead a Rapid Results Team (RRT) to quickly improve batch cycle time.
The RRT is a small, cross-functional client team led by a Chartwell consultant that has responsibility for delivering progress towards an outcome.
Product execution
- Problem Solving and Learning: rigorously challenge time delays and sources of production variability to prevent reoccurence and permanently eliminate issues.
- Plan for success: improve visibility of plan and use to identify/mitigate risks (equipment, raw material, labor, documentation etc.) and improve real-time decision making.
Zero Loss cycle time
- Structured scientific approach: build technical process understanding to identify and challenge previously untested process limitations.
- Rigorous focus and constraint-breaking: to maximize effectiveness of trials and ensure solutions are implemented and improved process is embedded at the fastest possible rate.
Delivering results
The overall timeline to deliver target results depends on the process and industry, but initial results are typically seen within the first 4 weeks post-project start.
By generating “quick wins” and showing how the impact of these can be seen on the overall batch performance, the team builds up momentum and belief that the longer-term, and more technically challenging opportunities, can also be successfully implemented.
By the end of the project phase, we expect to be in position where the team is consistently completing batches that are shorter than the target duration, and to have clear processes in place for managing performance and driving further improvement.
Typical projects range between 2-4 months, resulting in 20-50% sustained reduction of batch duration.

Sustaining results
The extent to which teams will continue to deliver further improvement vs. sustaining the results delivered after the conclusion of the Chartwell-led RRT will depend on the nature of the process and the expectations set at the project outset.
In every scenario, Chartwell will leave client teams with a bespoke plan for sustaining their results, typically including:
- Handover of management of key tools, meetings and structures
- Sustainable processes & training for maintaining top KPIs
- Coaching to lead improvement efforts for 1-2 key individuals
- Training in relevant technical skills for specific SMEs (e.g. technical problem solving, Advanced SMED, Line Studies)
- Improvement Attitudes training
For clients who want their teams to deliver further improvement after Chartwell support has ended, we have additional powerful offerings:
- SuperImprover, SuperImprover Lite and SuperUser Training Programs
- Digital solutions for more robust and advanced KPIs
- Supervisor training
