Significantly boost your production line speed quickly and effectively. The Chartwell Line Target Speed Program is designed to elevate your line target speed within 10 to 26 weeks.
Key features
- Achieve significant enhancements in production speed and capacity within just 10-26 weeks.
- Lower operational costs by optimizing plant hours, consolidating production lines, and moving volume to the most cost-effective locations.
- Achieve long-term efficiency gains that support your ongoing success.
Typical use cases
There are two main use cases where this service brings the most value:
- An organization needs an urgent boost in capacity or productivity.
- An organization is looking to reduce cost through reducing plant running-hours, moving volume to lower cost locations or reducing the number of lines required to make fixed output volume.

Industries
We have a strong track record of results across industries:
Opportunity Assessment
Typically, all projects begin with a 1–3 week Opportunity Scan at the relevant client site(s). The goal of the assessment is to assess:
- How much improvement is possible i.e. by how much can rates be sustainably increased?
- What would be required to deliver that outcome i.e. length of time, resourcing, workstreams etc.
Delivering this requires a mixture of data analysis, process investigation, direct observations of lines and workshops with process experts.
The outputs of the scan are speed and capacity profiles, a prioritized list of improvement opportunities for increasing line speed (alongside other potentially significant opportunities such as reducing changeover time and short stops) and a project plan to deliver those improvements, typically lasting between 10-24 weeks.
We aim to identify 2-4x as much opportunity during an assessment to be confident we can deliver the project target.
At the end of the Scan, we will present our findings to a team of client figures, together with a proposal for delivering the target improvement, so a Go/No Go decision can be made.

The Rapid Results Team
Chartwell consultants come on-site and lead a Rapid Results Team (RRT) to quickly deliver step-change results.
The RRT is a small, cross-functional client team led by a Chartwell consultant that has responsibility for delivering progress towards an outcome.
The RRT will first map in detail the factors controlling line speed – How does the rate limiting step work? What is preventing the line from running faster already? What are the potential risks of increasing speed?
What would be needed to trial increasing speed? Next the team will set up a series of
Structured Trials. The trial plan is made with cross-functional input and includes:
- Detailed start and stop criteria
- Measurable success criteria
- Trial monitoring plan with owners, including increased testing and additional sensors as needed
- Trial risk assessment and mitigation plan, including HSE and quality risks
- Comprehensive trial log with learnings
The team will use the data from the trials to resolve technical and organizational hurdles, and iterate for the next set of trials – What went wrong? Why? How do we stop that next time?
Typical outcomes of RRT efforts are new set speeds based on successful trial data, improved process understanding, and increased process stability — due to resolved technical problems.
Delivering results
The overall timeline to deliver target results depends on the process and industry, but initial results are typically seen within the 2-6 weeks post-project start, depending on process complexity.
By generating “quick wins” and showing how the impact of these can be seen on the line, the team builds up momentum and belief that the longer-term and more technically challenging opportunities can also be successfully implemented.
By the end of the Project phase, we expect to be in position where the line speed is running sustainably at or higher than the target speed, and to have clear processes in place for managing the new target speed and driving further improvement.
Typical projects range between 10-26 weeks, resulting in 10%-30% capacity increase, depending on process and industry.

Sustaining results
The extent to which teams will continue to deliver further improvement vs sustaining the results delivered after the conclusion of the Chartwell-led RRT will depend on the nature of the process and the expectations set at the project outset.
In every scenario, Chartwell will leave client teams with a bespoke plan for sustaining their results, typically including:
- Handover of management of key tools, meetings and structures
- Sustainable processes & training for maintaining top KPIs
- Coaching to lead RRT for 1-2 key individuals
- Training in relevant technical skills for specific SMEs (e.g. technical problem solving, science-based centerlining, line studies)
- Improvement Attitudes training
For clients who want their teams to deliver further improvement after Chartwell support has ended, we have additional powerful offerings:
- SuperImprover, SuperImprover Lite and SuperUser Training Programs
- Digital solutions for more robust and advanced KPIs
- Supervisor training
