- Powerful methodology: A blend of best-practice techniques developed from many industries, project types and manufacturing technologies.
- Hands-on training: Each trainee conducts their improvement projects just like a Chartwell consultant would, including receiving monthly performance reviews.
- Results driven: Every project outlined as part of the training program will deliver the pre-agreed improvement KPIs.
Contents and structure
The Chartwell Super Improvers Training is an apprenticeship-style approach that uses up to 3 projects determined by your organization to develop and execute a successful improvement program as if they were a Chartwell consultant. Unlike other training, trainees are selected to be a part of this Super Improvers program based on specific criteria and qualifications to ensure the best outcomes.
As part of the program, each trainee goes through the same rigorous training every Chartwell consultant goes through when joining Chartwell – intense coaching, experience of being part of an accelerated improvement program. Trainees are embedded into the Chartwell delivery team and as part of the team, experience on-the-job training where they lead a workstream as part of the overall project, just like a Chartwell consultant.
Trainee workstream responsibilities include:
- Designing the approach to improving efficiencies
- Setting the analysis they are going to use as part of the project
- Working with the Chartwell team to come up with ideas, execute on those ideas and report on progress throughout the duration of the project
Training is meant to build results-focused continuous improvement capabilities and provide the skills, methodology and hands-on experience of being part of an improvement program – not just a toolbox of methodologies.
Training structure
The Chartwell Super Improvers Training Program is broken into 3 parts and is not focused around a single methodology, but a fundamental shift in how operations teams approach improvement overall – methods on how to effectively measure performance, and action, coach and sustain improvement, are all based on our custom, results-focused methodology.
The initial training is a 3-week (65hr) hands-on, classroom intensive course that introduces the Chartwell improvement methodology.
It is focused on 4 areas:
- Understanding and prioritizing opportunities;
- Problem solving;
- Driving improvement;
- Personal effectiveness.
Each trainee is supported by individual feedback and coaching throughout the 3-week period.
The second part of the training program builds on the learning from the 3-week course by demonstrating the trainees ability to deliver results over a 6-month period. This apprenticeship-approach focuses the trainees on driving two focused improvement workstreams from their organization.
Throughout this stage, the trainee conducts their improvement projects just like a Chartwell consultant would. They receive monthly performance reviews, skills workshops and monthly targeted 1-1 mentoring and coaching.
The final part of the Super Improvers Training is based on „graduation“ from the program. In order to succeed and graduate, trainees need to have demonstrated driving results on a pre-agreed KPI, ensuring that performance is well aligned with day-to-day activity.
In addition to the above, we are also able to tailor the training and/or add additional modules based on specific client needs, for example if there are specific challenges, opportunities or skill gaps that the organization would like to target.
Results and sustainability
Super Improvers Training is run alongside a wider improvement program, and helps with both:
- Delivering improvement faster – due to parallel improvement delivered by OpEx team members skilled in proven improvement methodologies.
- Ensuring results are sustained – this training is a powerful investment in upskilling core team members to ensure they are highly effective in delivering improvement within the core competencies after the wider improvement project has ended.
Alongside the core training, we have other offerings which can help organizations continue to thrive and develop:
- Supervisor Excellence Training
- Super User Training
- Design and setup of bespoke Front Line Accountability Tools (FLATs) for helping the team to manage productivity in their area
- Design of bespoke digital visualization tools to help supervisors understand targets, progress and losses in their area
- Training in structured problem-solving methods
